Gran Canaria combines dunes, beaches, mountains and cities with their own character within just a few kilometres. The Maspalomas Dunes, one of the most iconic landscapes in the archipelago, contrast with the island's interior, where formations such as Roque Nublo and deep ravines define a volcanic environment ideal for hiking and panoramic routes.
The island offers a great variety of settings for different kinds of trip. The south is dominated by coastal areas and open beaches, while the north has urban centres and distinctive towns like Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the Playa de Las Canteras is woven into the fabric of daily city life. Moving inland, mountain roads, natural viewpoints and villages like Teror or Tejeda emerge — considered among the island's most representative.
Gran Canaria also stands out for its cultural and gastronomic richness, with local markets, fresh produce and a tradition shaped by Atlantic and European influences. The variety of settings and the ease of getting around the island allow visitors to discover very different landscapes in a single trip, moving between coast, highlands and city without long transfers.

What to see and do
Maspalomas Dunes
A dune system beside the ocean that creates one of Gran Canaria's most iconic landscapes. This protected natural area combines sand, sea and lagoon, forming a landmark image of the island's south.
Walk the area at sunset to avoid the heat and enjoy the light on the dunes.
Roque Nublo
One of Gran Canaria's natural symbols, set in the mountainous interior. The trail up to this volcanic monolith offers sweeping views across the island and is one of the most popular hikes.
The final section is short but wear suitable footwear for the rocky terrain.
Las Canteras Beach
Urban beach stretching several kilometres, integrated into the city, with a natural reef protecting much of the shoreline. One of the island's most active spots — for swimming as much as for walking.
The La Barra section is ideal for snorkelling thanks to its calmer waters.
Puerto de Mogán
Coastal area known for its canals, marina and flower-lined streets. Its design and atmosphere make it one of the most carefully kept settlements in the south of Gran Canaria.
Visit on a Friday when the local market takes place.
